Pre-Preparation Sports Physicals

The upcoming sport seasons are quickly coming upon us.  That means it is time for athletes to get their preparticipation physicals performed.  In an effort to make this process more convenient and accessible for athletes and their parents, we have implemented a community service program that allows student-athletes to obtain their physical within 3 days from initial contact in most cases.  The cost of the physical is $50.00.

The purpose of the sports physical is not only to determine the general health of the athlete, but also to screen athletes for conditions that may predispose the athlete to injury to themselves or fellow athletes.  Parents are strongly encouraged to accompany their minor child.  Because we desire to discuss specific at-risk health concerns, we require that parents accompany athletes with any of the following pre-existing symptoms or conditions.  The parent or guardian should also bring any pertinent medical records regarding previous evaluation(s) of the conditions below:

•    Shortness of Breath or chest pain at rest or exercise
•    Symptomatic heart murmurs
•    Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (or family history of sudden cardiac death prior to 50)
•    Fainting during exercise
•    Congenital heart defects
•    Severe vision impairment (worse than 20/60 corrected vision)
•    Diabetes
•    Hemophilia or clotting disorder
•    History of multiple concussions within the last year
•    History of uncontrolled seizures or epilepsy
•    Active communicable disease (including mono, ringworm, and skin herpes)
•    Possible Pregnancy
•    Marfans's disease
•    HIV/Hepatitis
•    Recent broken bone(s) in the last 6 weeks

The athlete will need to bring the following items to the examination:

•    Signed "Consent to Examiniation" form completed by adult guardian.
•    Complete medical and immunization history portion of physical form (completed by parent or guardian)
•    Comfortable clothing (shorts and short-sleeve shirts, unless temperature in inappropriate).
•    Payment for examination accepted in the form of cash, credit card, or check.  Make payable to Austin Chiropractic Center.
