Vestibular/ Balance Rehabilitation (VERTIGO)

Visual pathways are connected to the movement patterns of the eyes and neck as well as to sound and smell pathways. When you hear a sound or smell something interesting, you usually immediately turn to see where the sound or smell came from. So, if the sound or smell pathways are not working effectively, the visual pathways may also be affected.

Vision and eye movement are also connected to balance, or proprioceptive pathways and core spinal muscles that hold the spine upright and erect. With this knowledge in mind, it is easy to understand why chiropractic neurologists often use eye exercises to help to strengthen the core spinal muscles.  This can help to relieve back pain as well as returning balance to the spinal muscles which could help with scoliosis or curvature of the spine.

Interactive metronome training (www.interactivemetronome.com) or music of different frequencies and pitches (www.i-waveonline.com) can be used to stimulate the different sides of the brain.  Eyelights (www.eyelights.com) are neurological light and color stimulation glasses used to strengthen the weaker side of the brain.  These innovative techniques are just some of the therapies available at Austin Chiropractic Center for neurological rehabilitation.
